I
am never afraid to play early on Sunday morning. We always play hard
and we always seem to be focused. Today, New Canaan was more focused.
We outshot them 2 to 1. In spite of that, we still couldn't seem to
finish. Although our actual shots are decent, we never seem to force
the opponent's goaltender to move his feet. Our shots were largely
unscreened and rebounds were allowed to be passed immediately 'out
of harm's way'. We need to continue to shoot, as we've done, but crash
the net with more abandon, fight for loose pucks, and finish our plays.
The area in front of the net is a WAR ZONE. You have to play like
you know it's a war zone. We have to get tougher, take a few shots
off our body, and make the goalies 'earn their pay'. We can do better.
This was not our year. We will begin immediately to prepare for next
year's tournament.
