I don't know or have much
to say, except that that was a tremendous learning experience
for all of us. They were as fine of a Bantam team as I've seen
in quite some time, probably dating back to 1977, my first trip
to Finland. They played the game the way it should be played
-- fast, with short, give and go passes. Their skills were so
far better developed than any of our best area Bantam players.
Watching young, skilled hockey players is still a real treat
for me. Hockey is a tremendous game, and watching it played
like that was a great experience. You were playing against some
of Finland's best, so it's important that we not get discouraged.
The most important part of any athletic endeavor is not the
score, but the effort. The scores always seem to have a way
of ultimately being taken care of -- obviously, with the proper
work ethic and effort.
Working
hard becomes a habit, a serious kind of fun. You get self-satisfaction
from pushing yourself to the limit, knowing that all the effort
is going to pay off. -- Mary Lou Retton
