I'm happy that we're able
to get some players on the plus side of our plus-minus stats.
We can probably consider this game against Henderson as a confidence
booster. We played well, passing the puck better than we've
done in any game. I noticed too, that we talked a lot more --
any correlation? I wonder! As a coach, it is nice to see many
of the things we worked on in practice, actually work in a game.
Our power play breakout and our power play all seemed to work
well; we generated a lot of shots. Again, we saw opportunities
and we passed. I hope we can continue this after the holidays.
The sportsmanship you all display continues to impress me. In
a way, it was nice to get ahead early -- so we could practice
our passing. Your attitude toward those less-skilled than you
was great to see. We even had some inquiries about Upland after
the game.
I would like to pass on part
of a letter written to Mr. Schluter after the Upland/TPS Tournament.
It was written by Doug Brown, a former area hockey player and
now a paramedic, who was providing medical coverage for our
games that weekend. In his letter Mr. Brown writes, "The
memories that have come back to me over the last few weeks have
been sweet indeed. I'm also proud of the tradition that Upland
continues to uphold in providing athletics as a vital part of
a solid education. Your kids are among the best there are --
regardless of the final score of an athletic contest.
Nice comments -- makes me
proud of all of you.
Remember,
you're not as bad as you think you are when you lose, and you're
not as good as you think you are when you win.
